The Starting Line

By Sean | Iron Oak Group

I'm not a writer. I'm not an influencer. I'm a 47-year-old Marine veteran, executive, husband, father, and lifelong fitness guy who decided it was time to bet on himself.

This blog is where I document the next chapter — building a business, chasing financial freedom, and staying disciplined in the gym while doing it all. No filter. No polish. Just the journey.

If you're in your 40s wondering if it's too late to start something new — it's not. Pull up a chair.

The Short Version of Me

I grew up competing. Baseball was my first love — the discipline, the grind, the pressure of performing when it mattered. After high school, I joined the United States Marine Corps and spent four years learning what real discipline looks like.

The Marines gave me a lot. But the thing that stuck most? Fitness. Not just push-ups and pull-ups — I mean the mental reset. The clarity that comes after a hard session. The way iron teaches you patience. I've used the gym to process every major decision, every hard season, every transition in my life since I was 21 years old.

After the Marines, I earned my degree from the University of Washington and landed at a company where I've now spent 19 years. I've grown from the ground up into an executive role leading a large team. I'm proud of that run. But I've always known there was more in me.

The Life I've Built

In 2010, I married the love of my life. We have two beautiful kids — a girl and a boy — and we've built a home in the Tri-Cities. We own a rental property. Life is good.

But "good" isn't the finish line. Not for me.

The Shift

In February of last year, I made a decision that scared me and excited me at the same time.

I pulled all of my money out of my financial advisor's hands and took full control of my investments. No more paying someone else to care about my future less than I do.

I started reading. I Will Teach You to Be Rich taught me to build systems and spend on what I love without guilt. The Psychology of Money taught me that wealth isn't about math — it's about behavior, patience, and compounding. Rich AF taught me that the wealthy don't just save — they know the rules, use every tax advantage available, and think in abundance.

So I applied it immediately. I maxed out my 401(k). I opened my first Traditional IRA. Late? Sure. But you have to start. The best time was 20 years ago. The second best time is right now.

The Spark

Then came the business trip. Six weeks away from my family. Just me, a hotel gym, and a stack of books. (my kindle)

I was reading Rich AF when the question hit me: What if I could make money doing something I actually love?

I've used fitness apps for years. And every single one has the same problem — they assume you have a full commercial gym. Hammer strength machines, cable stations, the works. But what about the guy in a hotel gym with dumbbells and a pull-up bar? What about the home gym warrior with a rack, some bands, and adjustable dumbbells?

Nobody was solving that problem. So I decided I would.

More on how IronAI Fitness went from idea to App Store in a matter of months — coming next week.

The Numbers

I'm putting it all on the table because accountability matters:

  • Current investments: ~$1.5 million (self-managed)
  • 401(k): Maxed out
  • Traditional IRA: Opened and contributing
  • Rental property: Cash flowing
  • Business investment (IronAI Fitness): ~$9,000
  • Target: $7 million in 7 years
  • Age at target: 54

Is it a stretch? Absolutely. But I've been a Marine. I've led teams through harder things than a financial goal. And I've never once set a fitness goal I didn't hit.

What's Coming

This blog is going to cover it all — honestly, weekly, and without the highlight reel. Here's what you can expect:

The Gym — My training splits, what's working, what's not, and how fitness keeps me sane while building everything else.

The App — The real story of building IronAI Fitness. The wins, the setbacks, the money, the lessons. From first line of code to first download.

The Money — Monthly investment updates, what I'm learning, book reviews, and the real math behind going from $1.5M to $7M.

The Mindset — How I process it all. The mental game of being an executive, entrepreneur, father, and husband simultaneously.

The Community — The people showing up for me. How I'm building this with real human connection, not ad spend.

Why "The Starting Line"?

Because no matter what I've accomplished — the career, the family, the house, the investments — this right here is Day 1 of something new.

I'm not building a brand. I'm building a legacy. For my kids. For my wife. For the version of me at 54 who gets to choose how he spends his time.

And for anyone out there who thinks 47 is too late to start — come walk with me. I'll prove it's not.
